The Rongai Route
The Rongai Route is Kilimanjaro’s hidden gem. It is the only route that approaches the summit from the north, near the Kenyan border. This 7-day itinerary is our "Expert’s Choice" because it offers a more gradual ascent than the 6-day version, significantly increasing your acclimatization window and summit success rate.
Unlike the busier southern routes, Rongai offers a true wilderness experience, passing through untouched rainforests and high-altitude deserts where you are more likely to see wildlife than other trekking groups. Because it lies on the "rain shadow" side of the mountain, it is also the best choice for those trekking during the wetter months.
Tour Information
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
The Rongai route is physically demanding due to the summit night, but it is technically a walk-up. No climbing experience is required. However, you should be in good aerobic shape and prepared for 6–10 hours of walking daily.
Food & Drink
We operate on a full-board basis. Our mountain chefs prepare fresh, high-carb meals (pasta, rice, stews) to fuel your climb. We provide filtered and boiled water daily. Please bring your own reusable 2L–3L hydration bladder or Nalgene bottles.
Accommodation
During the trek, you will stay in high-quality, four-season mountain tents (double occupancy). We provide thick foam sleeping mattresses. Your first and last nights are in a comfortable hotel in Arusha/Moshi.
